The Nice City Centre is in a modern building with a porter's lodge, near to the recently renovated Place Masséna, Nice's pedestrianised main square, which is served by a new tram system and other transport links. The centre is close to the Promenade des Anglais and the Old Town. Nice is France's fifth largest city and the focus for urban redevelopment since 2008 to create a 'green city'.
The region is developing as a centre for innovation, sustainable development, research and specialist higher education, especially in life sciences and technology. Renovation of Nice Teaching Hospital is the country's largest hospital development programme and the Claude Pompidou Centre is building a pilot centre for healthcare research and prevention. Eight competitiveness clusters support innovation in the area.
